The basics

What is an Instagram Audio Downloader?

Sometimes the sound is the best part of a Reel: a clear explanation, a short lesson, a motivating talk, a funny voice-over or a song you want to find later. An Instagram audio downloader takes a public Reel or video and saves only its soundtrack, so you can listen to it like a music file or podcast.

With Insta Video Download you paste the link of the Reel and press Download. Our server fetches the video, takes out the audio track and sends you the original MP4 file, which contains the full soundtrack (MP3 conversion is not available on this server at the moment). Because the work is done on our server, it is just as fast on an old phone as on a new laptop.

Who uses it?

  • Creators who recorded a voice-over inside Instagram and want to reuse their own audio.
  • Students who want to listen to a short lecture or language lesson while walking or travelling.
  • Music fans who want a short clip to identify a song later with a music-recognition app.
  • Podcasters and teachers who keep their own clips in an audio library.

The tool works with public Reels and videos only. Music on Instagram is usually licensed for use inside Instagram, so please read the section on responsible use below.

Step by step

How to download audio from Instagram

Use the link of a Reel that contains the sound.

  1. Find a Reel with the sound

Open Instagram and find a public Reel or video with the audio you want.

  2. Copy the Reel link

Tap the paper-plane icon or the three dots (⋯) and choose Copy link.

  3. Open the audio downloader

Come back to this page in your browser.

  4. Paste the link

Paste it into the box at the top or press Paste.

  5. Press Download and wait

Press Download. Extracting the audio can take a few seconds longer than a normal video download.

  6. Save the audio file

Press the audio download button. You will receive the original MP4 file, which contains the full soundtrack (MP3 conversion is not available on this server at the moment).

Button names in Instagram depend on your device and app version. Links to Instagram’s audio pages (instagram.com/reels/audio/…) don’t work — open a Reel that uses the sound and copy that Reel’s link instead. The Reel must be public.

Supported content

Which links work for audio?

Audio can only be taken from a video that has sound. Here is what is supported.

  • Public Reels Supported

Links with /reel/ from public accounts.

  • Public video posts Supported

Feed videos with links that contain /p/.

  • Reels with muted or removed music Conditional

If Instagram muted the Reel for copyright reasons, there is no sound to extract.

  • Instagram audio pages Not supported

Links like /reels/audio/… are not videos. Use the link of a Reel that uses the sound.

  • Stories, photos and private videos Not supported

Photos have no audio, and private content is not accessible. For Stories, use the Story Downloader to save the video.

Device guides

Saving audio on different devices

Where your audio file goes and how to play it.

Android phones

The file is saved in Downloads. Open it with your music player or the Files app. Most music apps also find files in the Downloads folder automatically.

iPhone and iPad

Safari saves the file to Files → Downloads. Tap it to play it in Files. Audio files cannot be added to the Photos app; keep them in Files or import them into an app that plays local audio.

Windows computers

The file is in your Downloads folder. It plays in Media Player, VLC or any audio editor.

Mac computers

Find the file in Downloads. It opens in the Music app, QuickTime Player or GarageBand.

Music and file apps differ between devices, so the names on your screen may vary.

Quality and formats

Audio quality and file format

Format: you receive the original MP4 file, which contains the full soundtrack (MP3 conversion is not available on this server at the moment).

Quality: MP3 files are created at 192 kbps and 44.1 kHz, which is clear, everyday listening quality. Instagram already compresses the sound when a Reel is uploaded, so a higher bitrate would only make the file bigger without making it sound better.

Source matters: if the Reel was recorded in a noisy place or with a weak microphone, the audio file will sound the same. We do not edit, clean or boost the sound.

File size: one minute of MP3 audio at 192 kbps is about 1.4 MB — much smaller than the video.

Troubleshooting

Audio problems and solutions

Check these common issues first.

  • Invalid Instagram URLUse the link of a Reel or video post. Audio page links (/reels/audio/) are not supported.
  • Download button not respondingRefresh the page and allow scripts on this site.
  • Private or unavailable videoIf the Reel needs a login or was deleted, its audio can’t be saved.
  • Takes a long timeExtraction adds a few seconds, especially for long videos. Keep the page open until the file arrives.
  • The file is silentThe Reel may be muted by Instagram or may have no sound. Check it in the app first.
  • Poor sound qualityThe audio can only be as good as the original recording.
  • I got a video fileWhen MP3 conversion is not available, the original MP4 is delivered. It still contains the audio and plays in music apps.
  • Can’t find the fileLook in Downloads or the Files app. On iPhone, audio stays in Files.
Privacy and security

What happens to your link and the file

  • Your link is sent to our server and to the download service that finds the video. We do not keep a history of the links you paste.
  • Video details are cached for about 5 minute(s), then removed.
  • To create the audio, our server downloads the video to a temporary file, extracts the sound and deletes the temporary file as soon as it is done.
  • The audio file is sent straight to your browser. We do not keep a copy.
  • No login or personal details are needed.

Read the full Privacy Policy for more.

Responsible use

Music and copyright, in plain words

Most songs in Reels are licensed to Instagram for use inside its apps. That license does not pass to you when you save the audio. Using a song in your own YouTube video, advert, podcast or event usually needs permission from the music owner — or you can use royalty-free music instead.

Voice-overs and lectures belong to the person who recorded them. Ask before you reuse them, and give credit. Your own recordings are yours to keep.

Insta Video Download is independent and not affiliated with Instagram or Meta.

Tips

How to find the name of a song from a Reel

Often you don’t need to download anything to learn which song is playing. Try these steps first:

  1. Check the audio label. At the bottom of most Reels, Instagram shows the song name and artist. Tap it to see more Reels that use the same sound.
  2. Read the caption and comments. Creators often name the song, and other viewers often ask and answer in the comments.
  3. Use a music-recognition app. Play the Reel (or your saved audio file) next to an app such as Shazam or the search feature in your music app.
  4. Listen to the saved clip later. If you are busy, save the audio now and identify it when you have time.

Once you know the song, listen to it on an official music service. This supports the artist and gives you the best sound quality.

Ideas

Good ways to use audio you own

If the voice or sound in a Reel is your own, saving the audio opens up many useful options:

  • Turn a spoken tip into a short podcast episode or a voice note for your community.
  • Use your own voice-over again in a longer video on another platform.
  • Keep a library of your best clips to review your speaking style.
  • Create subtitles more easily by playing the audio in a transcription tool.

For other people’s voices or music, keep the audio for personal listening unless you have clear permission.

Choose

Audio or video — which should you save?

Save the audio when you only need to listen: lectures, talks, voice-overs or music clips. The file is small and plays in the background with the screen off. Save the video with the Video or Reels Downloader when the picture matters too — for example dance steps, cooking or anything you need to watch.

If you are not sure, save the video. It contains the sound as well, and you can always extract the audio later.
