The short version
- You don’t need an account, and we never ask for your Instagram login.
- We don’t sell personal data.
- We don’t keep a history of the links you paste.
- Visitor statistics are aggregated and don’t include your IP address.
Links you submit
When you paste a link and press Download, it is sent to our server and then to the third-party download service we use to look up the media, and the media itself is fetched from Instagram’s servers. The result (links to the media files, caption and username) is kept in a temporary cache for about 5 minute(s) so repeat requests are fast, then discarded. Media files pass through our server only while they are being sent to you; they are not stored.
For profile pictures, the username you enter is looked up on Instagram’s public profile pages.
Visitor statistics
We count page views, the page visited, the referring website (for example a search engine), and your device type, browser family and — only when the site is served through Cloudflare — your country. To count unique visitors per day we combine your IP address and browser identifier with a random value that changes every day and store only the resulting one-way hash; the hashes are deleted within two days, and the IP address itself is never stored.
For each download request we record the tool used, whether it succeeded, how long it took and a short error message if it failed. We do not store the Instagram link you paste.
Technical and security data
Like almost every website, our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP address, time, requested page and browser) for security and troubleshooting. To prevent abuse we also keep short-lived counters per IP address, which reset after about a minute. If an error occurs, we log a technical description of it with personal details such as e-mail and IP addresses automatically removed.
Cookies and similar technologies
- Session cookie (
PHPSESSID) — holds a random security token that protects the download form from abuse. It expires when you close your browser. - Browser storage — the “Recent downloads” list is saved in your browser’s local storage only. It never leaves your device and you can clear it with the Clear button or your browser settings.
Third-party services
- Download service provider — receives the Instagram link you submit in order to return the media details.
- Instagram (Meta) — serves the media files and public profile data.
- Google Fonts — the site’s typeface is loaded from Google’s servers, which receive your IP address.
How long we keep data
- Download-request and error records: 90 days.
- Daily visitor hashes: up to 2 days.
- Aggregated statistics (counts only): kept for trend reporting.
- E-mails you send us: as long as needed to handle your request.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or UK GDPR), you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, to object to processing and to complain to a data-protection authority. Because we avoid storing identifiers, we usually hold no data that can be linked to you — but if you contact us we will help. Our legal basis for statistics and security processing is our legitimate interest in running a reliable, secure service.
Children
Insta Video Download is not directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal data.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and the date at the top.
