What is an Instagram Photo Downloader?
An Instagram photo downloader is a web tool that saves the pictures from a public Instagram post as image files. You paste the post link, and the tool shows each photo so you can save it in the best size Instagram offers.
Many people take a screenshot instead. A screenshot captures your whole screen: the status bar, the buttons and a smaller, resized picture. It also loses quality every time you crop it. A downloaded photo is the clean image file itself, with nothing around it and nothing cut off.
Who uses it?
- Photographers and artists who want copies of the work they posted, for example after losing the originals.
- Small businesses that need their own product photos from Instagram for a website or catalogue.
- Designers and students who collect public images as private reference or inspiration.
- Friends and family who want a clear copy of a group photo someone shared publicly, with the owner’s okay.
Insta Video Download works only with public posts and is meant for saving images you own or have permission to keep. It does not open private accounts.

Downloading photos on different devices
Images are saved differently from videos on some devices. Here is what to expect.
Android phones
The photo is saved to Downloads. It normally shows up in Google Photos or your Gallery app under “Downloads”. You can also open it from the Files app.
iPhone and iPad
Safari saves the image to the Files app → Downloads. If the image opens in a new tab instead, press and hold it and choose Save to Photos or Add to Photos.
Windows computers
The JPG file goes to your Downloads folder. Open it with the Photos app, or drag it into Word, PowerPoint or an image editor.
Mac computers
The image is saved to Downloads. Double-click to open it in Preview. You can import it into the Photos app if you want it in your library.
Your browser or phone system may label things a little differently.
Photo size, quality and format
Format: photos are saved as JPG files, exactly as Instagram delivers them.
Size: Instagram resizes every photo when it is uploaded. The stored version is at most about 1080 pixels wide:
- Square photos: about 1080 × 1080 pixels
- Portrait photos (4:5): about 1080 × 1350 pixels
- Landscape photos: about 1080 × 566 pixels
Original quality: the camera may have taken a much larger photo, but Instagram only keeps this smaller copy. No tool can give you more detail than that. Sites that promise “4K Instagram photos” only enlarge the same image, which makes it blurrier, not sharper.
File size: most Instagram photos are between 100 KB and 500 KB, so they download almost instantly.
If you need a print-quality version of a photo, the best way is to ask the photographer for the original file.
Photo problems and how to fix them
Try these simple fixes first.
- Invalid Instagram URLCopy the link again with Copy link. The link should contain
instagram.com/p/. - Download button not workingRefresh the page and try again. Pause any ad blocker for this site.
- Private or deleted postOpen the link in a private window. If it asks you to log in or says it isn’t available, the photo can’t be saved.
- Images don’t loadWait a moment and try again. A slow connection or busy service can delay previews.
- It’s a video postUse the Video Downloader for video posts, or the Thumbnail Downloader for a video’s cover image.
- The photo looks smallThat is Instagram’s stored size. The downloaded image is still larger than what you see in the app.
- Saved image is missingLook in Downloads or the Files app. On iPhone, press and hold the image and choose Save to Photos.
- Browser problemsUpdate your browser or try a different one. Some browsers save images as WebP when you use “Save image as”; use the download button instead.
Your privacy when saving photos
- The post link you paste goes to our server and to the download service that looks up the images. We do not keep a history of the links you paste.
- The image details are cached for about 5 minute(s) to speed up repeat requests, then cleared.
- Photos pass through our server on the way to your browser. We don’t store them.
- No login and no personal information are needed.
See the Privacy Policy for full information.
Photos are protected by copyright
A photo belongs to the person who took it from the moment it is created. Downloading it does not make it yours. Please save photos only for personal reference, or save your own photos. If you want to publish someone else’s photo — on a website, in an ad or on social media — ask for permission first and credit the photographer. Instagram also offers an official embed feature for sharing posts on websites.
Insta Video Download is not affiliated with or endorsed by Instagram or Meta.
Downloading vs taking a screenshot
Many people simply take a screenshot of an Instagram photo. It is quick, but the result is usually worse than a real download. Here is why:
- Extra clutter: a screenshot includes the time, battery icon, buttons and captions. You have to crop all of that away.
- Lower quality: the photo on your screen is shown smaller than the file Instagram stores. When you crop and zoom a screenshot, it becomes blurry quickly.
- Missing parts: on the profile grid, Instagram cuts the picture to fit. A screenshot of the grid misses the edges of the image.
- Many slides: for a post with ten photos you would need ten screenshots and ten crops.
A downloaded photo avoids all of these problems. You get one clean image file for each photo, in the largest size Instagram keeps, ready to open in any app.
How to keep your saved photos organised
If you save photos often, a little organisation saves a lot of time later:
- Make a folder or album such as “Instagram – my posts” or “Recipe ideas”, and move new downloads into it.
- Rename important files on your computer, for example “shop-product-blue-bag.jpg”, so you can search for them.
- Back up your own photos to cloud storage, so you still have them if you lose your phone or your account.
- Write down the source (the account name) if you save a photo for reference, so you can give credit or ask for permission later.
These simple habits make your downloads easy to find and help you use them in a fair way.
Instagram’s own save options vs a real download
Instagram has a bookmark icon that saves a post to your “Saved” collection. It is handy for coming back to posts later, but it only works inside the app, needs the internet and disappears if the owner deletes the post. For your own posts, Instagram also lets you download your data from the account settings, which includes your photos — but it can take time and gives you everything at once.
A photo downloader is the quick middle option: one post, one link, and you have the image files in seconds.
